Avatar Characters: Whether you want to be Neytiri or Jake Sully this season, you too can look like you just stepped out of Pandora! You can pull off this look for less by purchasing most of the items from your local Goodwill! Start with blue leggings and a long sleeve blue top. Add some liquid blue makeup to your face; easily found at craft stores. The blue tail can be made out off felt fabric, or by painting one from another costume! Any long braided wig works to pull of the signature Na’vi look. Don’t forget to cover up though; a brown dish towel or apron completes Avatar look!

Alice in Wonderland - Mad Hatter: His costume is just like his personality; a little quirky but still a lot of fun! This Mad Hatter look is so easy to pull off because you can mix and match a variety of pieces you may have left over from past years. The rest you’re sure to find at Goodwill! Start with a shorter pair of bell bottom striped or black pants and a simple black t-shirt. Add a red or dark colored jacket or even a bath robe, to finish off your clothing. Accessorize the look with dark dress shoes, a black and white scarf and a black top hat. Have fun with some bright makeup, you can’t go wrong with this one. And don’t forget the Mad Hatter’s signature piece; an orange wig tops off the look!

Alice in Wonderland - Alice: Join the magical adventure as Alice this year. Start with a baby blue full dress. Add a white apron on top. Pull on a pair of white stockings and black flats and your outfit is complete! Add a long blonde wig with a black ribbon tied in a bow on top, and now you’ve got the perfect Alice look.

Bride Theme - Dress in a flowing bridal gown, white veil, gloves, and a bouquet of flowers. Add sneakers for a runaway bride look. For a zombie bride look, place fake blood around your dress and comb baby powder through your hair. For a Gothic bride, go with a black dress and a black veil. Add boots, heavy black make-up, and add a bouquet of black flowers. Sing “Here comes the bride!”

Toy Story 3 - Woody: Yee-haw! This costume is great for all ages, and only requires simple items. Start with a pair of blue jeans or pants and pull black boots on over them. Add an orange or yellow long sleeve shirt, and a brown belt and large buckle. Add a cow-print vest. If you’re having a hard time finding one, any black vest will do. Don’t forget your cowboy hat, and red bandana, and you’re ready to find your horse Bullseye!

Characters from Glee: This one is a lot of fun to do with a group of friends. Will Schuester’s look is easy with a pair of slacks and a white button down shirt. Add a tie and a vest to match the pants. Sue Sylvester loves those track suits; find one with matching top and bottom, and make sure to don a short blonde wig. Rachel Berry’s preppy look can be put together by starting with a plaid or dark colored skirt. Add a button down top and a pastel cardigan. Accessorize with a pair of flats and a head band.

Vampires: It’s a classic look, but now the stereotypical black cape is being ditched for looks that resemble characters from Twilight, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries! This look is easy to do, because you can use every day clothing items from your closet. Add a subtle amount of white makeup for the “anti-sun” look, and a pair of fangs. Voila, you’re done!

Here are some fun ideas to make your own easy one-of-a-kind Halloween costume! You’ll find everthing you need at your local Goodwill’s Halloween Boutique.

Cheerleader: Wear matching colored shirt, skirt, and socks. Add white sneakers. Cut a letter, team name or mascot out of construction paper and attach to your shirt. Accessorize with pom-poms and a homemade megaphone. Make up some cheers to sing!

Construction Worker: Wear a white shirt with tight jeans and tan boots. Put a tool belt around your waist and wear a hard-hat.

Cowboy or Cowgirl: Think denim! Don a pair of blue jeans, a western-looking denim shirt, boots, a neckerchief and bandanna. And walla… you’re in the wild, wild west!

Gypsy: Be a free spirit this Halloween! Suit up in a long flowing skirt in a floral pattern and a puffy blouse. Accessorize with heavy gold costume jewelry, a noisy belt and a shawl. Tie a scarf around the head.

Hippie: Think Woodstock! On the bottom, wear bell bottom jeans, long jeans with rips or a peasant skirt with leather sandals. On the top, wear a tie dye shirt or a T-shirt. Accesorize with love beads, peace buttons and funky sunglasses.

Magician: Wear a black tuxedo jacket with black pants and and a white dress shirt. Don a top hat and white gloves then grab a stuffed bunny for tricks.

Military: Mix and match green or camouflaged T-shirt, pants, vest or jacket, and black boots. For accessories, wear a helmet, canteen, and a camouflage wrist band.

Nerd: Watch the movie, “Revenge of the Nerds” to get some additional “nerdy” ideas. Wear a pair of pants that are a couple of inches short (AKA Floods), a buttoned down shirt with a corny bow tie, white socks, black shoes and dark frame glasses. For an added touch of nerdiness, place tape or a band aid around the nose piece of the glasses. Clumsily carry around a stack of books and a pocket calculator.

Old Man/Woman: Dress in something old looking. To create a large, jutting behind stuff some newspapers by your derriere. Put baby powder in your hair to turn it inot a silvery color. Carry a bulky black purse and a cane. Complete the look with wire framed glasses and a hair net.

Peter Pan: Be Peter Pan this Halloween. Wear a white tee-shirt and write “Peter” on the front and then write “Pan” on the back. Carrying an actual frying pan is optional.

Pirate: Wear a long-sleeved white shirt and a black vest. Draw a skull and crossbones with white fabric paint on the back of the vest. Cut pants at mid-calf and cut the hem into zigzags. For accessories, a pirate captain’s hat or tie a scarf around your head. Add striped socks or black boots, an earring, and fake tattoos. Go around saying, “Aye, Matey”, “Aye”, “shiver me timbers”, “bucko”!

Rapper: Wear a pair of jeans several sizes too big with a black tee shirt. Accessorize with gold chains, a boom box blaring rap music and a baseball hat worn backwards.

Scarecrow: Find a pair of loose fitting blue jeans and make cutouts in the knees. Sew patches on these cut outs. Then suit up in a long flannel shirt and begin affixing straw with duct tape to cuffs of pants and shirt.

The American Tourist: Shop Goodwill for a Hawaiian shirt, a pari of shorts and a large straw hat. Don’t forget to have a camera, and maps hanging out, and that look of being lost!

Undercover Agent: Show your wit this Halloween with this easy to assemble last minute costume. Wear a long sleeve shirt with a pocket and a pair of khakis. Then throw a blanket over you.

50’s: Head back to the oldies! Wear a pair of jeans rolled up to the mid-calf and an untucked, white, button-down shirt with socks and tennis shoes. Ladies can complete the look with a scarf or men can slick their hair back for a greaser look.

A Highway: Vrooom…Wear a black tee-shirt and pants. Paint two solid (or dotted) yellow lines down the middle of the shirt on both sides. Glue match box cars on both sides of the road (yellow lines). Now you’re on your way!

Crayon: Dress in a solid color sweat suit. Paint or use a magic marker to print the word, “crayon” in large black letters down the length of your body. Going with the same color scheme, create a pointed hat, using construction paper or oak tag. Staple a string on it and tie it under your neck to keep it secure. And the final touch. Paint your face your crayon color.

Dalmatian Puppy: Watch out for Cruella De Vil in this costume! For a child, use a white thermal Onesie. For an adult use a white sweat shirt and white sweat pants. Use black fabric paint and paint dots on the Onesie or the sweat shirt and sweat pants. To create the ears and a hat, use a white long sleeve turtleneck shirt. Cut the body off right below the sleeves. Sew and round out the end of the sleeves (ears) and round out the body opening. The turtleneck opening now becomes the hat. Use black fabric paint and paint dots on the “turtle neck”. Complete your look with black socks and white shoes.

Fancy Female Ghost: This is a fun twist on the typical ghost costume. Use a white sheet and cut out holes for the eyes and the mouth. Here’s the twist—now add eye shadow and eye lashes around the eyes. Use lipstick around the mouth. Add fancy earrings, a necklace and hat. This ghost is ready to go out on the town!

Fashion Police Costume: Take your regular police officer costume up a notch —make it the fashion police instead! Find dark navy blue or black pants and a matching button-down shirt (with collar), police officer’s hat, badge and whistle. Now, spice it up with a pair of platform shoes, a boa, trendy earrings and handbag. Blow your whistle at people walking by and say things like, “White pants after Labor Day? That’s a no-no. I’m gonna hafta take you in for that one.”

Miss America: “Here she is…Miss America”. All you need to pull off this look is a fancy bridesmaid or prom dress. Make your sash using a piece of scrap fabric or extra wide ribbon. Write Miss America and the year on it using glue and sprinkle with glitter. Add a tiara, fancy costume jewelry, white gloves and fancy shoes. Don’t forget to perfect that ‘wave!’

Mummy: This one is super easy! Simply purchase white sheets and tear them into long strips. Get a friend to help you wrap them around your body. Practice body movements of a stiff mummy!

Spider: Think Black widow! For this costume, you’ll need a black hooded sweatshirt; a pair of black pants or sweats; and black socks or booties. You’ll also need 4 pairs of black tube socks or nylons. Stuff the tube socks with cotton batting, newspaper, or any material you can find to make the spider legs. Then sew the eight legs to the sides of the black outfit. Paint eyes on the top of the hood and a large red spot on the back (to get the Black Widow look.)

Television: Be your favorite television show! Take a large cardboard box and cut out holes for your arms and legs. Draw channel and volume controls on front side. Then choose what TV show (i.e. Jersey Shore, Glee or American Idol) you’d like to be and capture it on the “screen.” Affix pipe cleaners to a headband then put it on your head for the antennae.

Tickled Pink: Dress in all pink and carry a feather. When people ask you what you are answer, “I’m tickled pink!”

Betty Rubble: Go back to the Stone Age! Take a blue fitted sundress and cut a jagged edge on the hem. Wear a black wig done “Betty Style” with a bow or bone at top. Glue a small rock or bone to the top of the halter dress.

Bam-Bam: Have a yabbadabbadoo time! Using leopard skin fabric, cut out a piece big enough to fit around your waist securely. Cut a ragged edge at the bottom of this material. Use the rest of the material to make a leopard sash to drape across chest. Use glue and a plastic bone to attach the two pieces. Complete the outfit by carrying around a wooden bat and chant BAM BAM.

Carrie: You too, can be a “Creepy Carrie” withy a prom nightmare costume like in the scene from the movie in which Carries is doused with pig blood after being awarded the title of Prom Queen. Find a prom dress or gown and put fake blood all over it. Wear a tiara on your head and you are instantly turned into Carrie.

Popeye & Olive Oyl: Popeye’s costume is easy! Use a blue t-shirt and create a collar using red felt from a fabric store and sew or glue on to the blue t-shirt. Use yellow felt and cut out circles to create Popeye’s buttons and attach the “buttons” to the front of the shirt. Put on a pair of jeans and black or brown shoes. Complete the outfit with a sailor hat and corn pipe.

For Olive Oyl’s outfit use a red long sleeve t-shirt and a long black skirt. Create a collar using lace from a fabric store and sew or glue on to the red t-shirt. Add lace to the wrists of the t-shirt. Attach a wide white ribbon onto bottom of the black skirt. For the final touches wear white ankle socks and brown shoes, and don’t forget to slick back your hair.

Brady Bunch Mania: Greg and Marsha: Wear bell bottom jeans with silk-style shirts and lifter shoes. Put on a giant nose to capture the episode where Marcia gets hits with the football. Alice: Suit up in a blue maid’s uniform and white nurse’s shoes. Put your hair in a bun.

Dilbert: Slip on round wire frame glasses. Wear a white shirt and black dress slacks. Find a red and black stripe tie and on the underside of the tie, glue pipe cleaners. Bend them upward so it looks like Dilbert’s tie.

Pipi Longstocking: Retreat back to this favorite childhood character using pipe cleaners, wire the inside of the pig tails. Then wear a red dress with a flower pattern and a white apron with a fringe on it. Wear hiking books with color socks and then apply red marker to create freckles on your face.

I Dream of Jeannie: Grab a genie bottle and prepare to make a grand entrance this Halloween! Wear a skimpy tube top (preferably pink) beneath a short red vest. Don a pair of baggy pants (preferably pink or white) and a pair of ballet shoes. Accessorize with large hoop earrings and a head band.

Princess Leia: STAR WARS fans will love this costume! Buy brown hair extensions (or use your own!) and make them into the trademark “cinnamon buns” that Princess Leia is so well known for. Next, dress yourself in a plain colored wraparound dress or even a white or cream bathrobe. Add a rope belt and laser gun and you will suddenly be transferred to a galaxy far, far away!
