Center for Assistive Technology (CAT)

The Center for Assistive Technology can help individuals overcome the following limitations:


  • Slow Keyboarding Skills

  • Inability to See Monitor

  • Lack of Clarity in Speech

  • Difficulty with Posture

  • Inability to Read Printed Material

  • Poor Motor Skills

  • Inaccessible Workstation


The Center provides comprehensive technological evaluation and individualized training services for persons with disabilities.

We help people gain independence through the use of computers and communications technology using a variety of adaptive aids, software programs and state-of-the-art equipment.

Staff will identify and select augmentative communication devices and assistive tools.

The Center also serves as a resource for rehabilitation professionals through training and demonstrations on the latest technologies available to their clients.

The Center is available to individuals who are referred by the California Department of Rehabilitation and other social service agencies. Below is a partial list of disability groups who would most benefit from our services:

Visual Impairment, Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Disabilities, Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Learning Disabilities, Laryngectomy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Blindness, Repetitive Stress Syndrome.

Individual Assessments
Clients will receive an evaluation of functional capacity to determine range of motion, physical strength and other factors that will assist in matching equipment to the clients’ needs and goals.

This includes a tryout phase to acquaint clients with options in using equipment, software and other tools.

Equipment Procurement
Modification, Installation & Training

Staff provides assistance and makes recommendations to rehabilitation counselors regarding the purchase and modification of equipment.

Follow up & Retraining
Clients will receive ongoing assistance and product updates to ensure they have the latest technology.

Employer Services
Staff works closely with employers to assess work site ergonomics, ADA compliance, and job site productivity.
