Patrick McClenahan President and CEO Donald F. Crumrine Board Chair or more than 100 years, Goodwill Southern California (GSC) has served those with barriers to employment, including individuals with disabilities, veterans, at-risk youth, formerly incarcerated, the homeless, and other community members who have found it difficult to find good jobs. Workforce and Career Development is at the heart of Goodwill’s mission. To serve those with the greatest barriers in our community, our dedicated team of professionals provide counseling, training, placement and job coaching programs throughout the counties of Los Angeles (north of Rosecrans), Riverside and San Bernardino. Through our career resource centers, this past year we served more than 31,000 job seekers. We are dedicated to educating the community and employers so that every organization can experience the many unique benefits and contributions of job seekers who face vocational barriers. Our program participants are an inspiration to everyone around them, as they have the talent, desire and drive to persist despite their challenges. And we’ve seen time and time again how businesses thrive when they embrace a workplace of inclusion and diversity. In addition to providing job opportunities for over 4,000 individuals, Goodwill, through our social enterprise retail operation, provides transitional employment for many needing work experience to get back on their feet and re-enter the job market. This social enterprise includes 85 stores and 46 attended donation centers. This past year we opened five new stores and continued implementation of efficiencies and productivity advancements in all locations. As a result of these efforts, we were honored to receive the annual Retail Excellence Award from Goodwill Industries International for best year-over-year retail growth. Additional highlights this past year include the opening of a new YouthSource center in the San Fernando Valley which will serve thousands of at-risk and disconnected young adults every year. We were also honored to receive an award from California Forward in recognition of our involvement in creating innovative partnerships between employers and California’s secondary and post-secondary institutions. The generous contributions of our donors, along with those of our valued partners, help support our various employment programs and services throughout our territory. Grants and funding from partners, such as the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and ARCO, allow us to continue and enhance these vital programs. Thank you to all of our donors, partners, and employees for making 2017 another significant year of Transforming Lives through the Power of Work!
