I was fresh out of the military, and I had no 
place to call home. I met Freddy at the local barbershop. He 
gave me his card and told me about Veterans Peer Access 
Network (VPAN), a community driven and Veteran-led program 
that connects Veterans and their families to services they may 
need. At first, I didn’t want to contact him because I felt like I 
would get the runaround similar to how the VA treated me. 
But Freddy and the Goodwill VPAN team assisted me.
Four months after going to the VPAN office, I was notified I got 
my VA disability rating. This is a lifetime benefit I earned through 
service and self-discipline, and I’m not letting it go to waste.
 If you are a Veteran reading this, start now. Even if you think 
you know what you know, be sure and go visit the VPAN office.
